Tottenham have thrown Ange Postecoglou into the deep end.
The Australian has arrived at the north London club in a very uncertain atmosphere, and the main issue at Spurs right now is whether or not Harry Kane will leave the club.
The England captain is being pursued by Bayern Munich, and while Spurs do not want to lose their best player, the fact is that he might be on his way.
Tottenham have had to come up with some other plans if they are to lose Kane this summer, and Ange Postecoglou has a few different alternatives in mind, according to The Athletic.
One option is to recruit a young player who can be a long-term successor for Kane, while another is to purchase a seasoned striker who can come in and instantly replace Kane.
However, according to The Athletic, Tottenham is also considering an in-house alternative.
According to the article, there has been some discussion about shifting Heung-Min Son to the number nine spot if Kane left and building around the South Korean.
This is an intriguing proposal that might go either way.
Son has been a crucial player for Tottenham since his £22 million arrival under Mauricio Pochettino in 2015, and altering his role this late in his Tottenham career would be a major call.
However, it must be said that he possesses a number of crucial characteristics that every excellent number nine need. He’s quick, controlled, and a fantastic finisher to boot.
Unfortunately, Son is coming off what was perhaps his poorest season at Spurs to date, so giving him greater responsibility would be a significant risk, but Son has demonstrated over the best part of a decade that he understands where the back of the net is.
To say the least, this is an intriguing proposal.
