He made his Canaries debut in August 2016, in an EFL Cup match against his previous club, before joining Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen on loan for the first half of the season, making 17 appearances and scoring twice.
The next season, Maddison was a major member of Norwich‘s squad, making 49 appearances across all competitions and finishing the season as the club’s top scorer with 15 goals, earning City’s Player of the Season title.

James received multiple personal awards for his exceptional performances throughout 2017/18, including the Championship Young Player of the Month award for January, 2018, and the Championship Goal of the Month award for September, 2017, and January, 2018. The Coventry-born playmaker appeared in 203 games for Leicester over a five-year period, scoring 55 goals and winning the Premier League’s Goal of the Month award in September, 2020, with a stunning curling finish at Manchester City, while also helping the Foxes win the FA Cup in May, 2021.

The 2021/22 season began with a Community Shield victory against Manchester City and ended with the midfielder winning the club’s Player of the Season title after scoring 18 goals and registering 12 assists – his most prolific season to date. After representing England at the Under-21 level, James was called up to the senior team for the first time in October 2018, making his debut in a UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier against Montenegro in November 2019. After being chosen to Gareth Southgate’s 2022 World Cup team, he got his first start for the Three Lions in March 2023, in a Euro 2024 qualifying match against Ukraine at Wembley Stadium.
