According to a source, Liverpool and RB Leipzig have reached a “total agreement” on a contract that will provide Jurgen Klopp the exact parameters he desired

The Reds sanctioned four signings for the 2022/23 season, with Cody Gakpo joining in January following deals for Calvin Ramsay, Fabio Carvalho, and Darwin Nunez last summer.

Ramsay had an injury-plagued debut season on Merseyside, while Darwin Nunez is yet to reach his full potential. Gakpo quickly integrated into Klopp’s frontline, but Carvalho endured a miserable season.

Indeed, the 20-year-old, who cost Liverpool roughly £7.7 million to sign, played only 640 minutes throughout all competitions.

Carvalho was predominantly used as a No. 10 at his last club, Fulham. Klopp, on the other hand, does not use a traditional No 10, instead opting for his tried and true 4-3-3 shape.

Carvalho does not look to be a natural fit for Liverpool. With his lack of playing time, Klopp has publicly stated that Carvalho might leave Liverpool on loan this summer.

RB Leipzig of Germany soon emerged as a serious contender to sign Carvalho. Leipzig, on the other hand, preferred a permanent swap and made a £10 million proposal.

Liverpool turned down the deal because they didn’t want to give up on Carvalho just yet. As a result, a loan with a purchase option or obligation was equally unappealing to Liverpool.

Liverpool’s patience, however, has been rewarded, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Carvalho has agreed to join Leipzig on a direct loan.
Indeed, the transfer guru tweeted that Carvalho’s move to Leipzig is currently progressing, however the agreement will be a direct loan with no option or obligation to buy.

According to Romano, Leipzig and Liverpool have reached a “total agreement” that will see Carvalho play the 2023/24 season in Germany.

The last details are currently being worked out, and it is expected that a contract will be signed next week. Romano emphasized that the loan terms will NOT contain a purchase option or obligation.

The move is so ideal for Liverpool, who can avoid having to make a final choice on Carvalho in the future.

Furthermore, Carvalho is very certain to play more frequently at Leipzig than he would at Anfield next season.

If he improves and Liverpool decides to sell him next summer, Carvalho’s worth will have grown by impressing at a Champions League club.
