The 20-year-old joined the Reds from Fulham in a deal for up to £7.7 million last summer. Carvalho, on the other hand, battled for regular minutes during his first season at Anfield.
He scored three goals in 21 games but was a bit-part player, particularly in the second half of the season. Carvalho was unable to secure a starting berth in midfield or on the left flank.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp praised the Portugal under-21 international’s mentality while out of the starting lineup, but he did not rule out the possibility of a loan move to gain regular minutes in the 2023-24 season.
Klopp stated in April, “I would like to make all of these decisions with the boys before we talk (publicly) about it.”There has been no decision in any direction.
“What I can say is that he was exceptional again this week in training.” He’s very exceptional. So, certainly, we’ll chat and then see what we’ll do – what he wants, what I think, but there’s no choice yet.”
Leipzig has been mentioned as a possible destination, and according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the last touches are being put on the switch.
“RB Leipzig and Liverpool are closing in on a Fabio Carvalho loan deal until the end of the current season — clubs now working on final details to get it done next week,” he posted on Twitter.
“A club source confirms that the deal does not include a buy option clause at this time.”
