Liverpool are determined not to sell Fabio Carvalho permanently this summer.

After seeing his game time restricted in the second half of the season, Carvalho has been linked with a transfer away from Anfield. But, according to the Liverpool Echo, the 20-year-old will not be allowed go.

Private staff conversations are alleged to have finished with them being ‘adamant’ that Carvalho will still be a Liverpool player by the conclusion of the window.

The Reds, though, have apparently agreed that a loan transfer would be ‘constructive’ for the youngster.

With that in mind, it is alleged that Liverpool has been approached by a number of clubs ‘at home and abroad.’ One of these teams is RB Leipzig, while the others are yet unknown.

By now, it’s evident that Liverpool has no intention of permanently losing Carvalho in the foreseeable future. Whatever happens in the meantime remains to be seen, but he’ll be on the books at Anfield come September.

Overall, that is most likely the correct option. Although there have been reports that the Portugal U21 international may cost up to £20 million for Liverpool.

That might certainly assist Jurgen Klopp’s budget in a summer where they appear to be squeezing pennies yet again.

Nonetheless, it would be a mistake to give up and cash in on Carvalho right now. He’s showed flashes of great brilliance during his tenure at the club and deserves a bigger chance to do so in the future.

But first and foremost, he requires game time. After a better-than-expected start to the season, the former Fulham player has appeared in only three Liverpool games since February.

Those appearances totaled only nine minutes on the field. Not good enough for a young man attempting to improve his game.

In terms of loan alternatives, Fulham has been mentioned as a possible contender. Back in a familiar atmosphere with a management that believes in him, it might be a win-win situation for everyone. In 12 months, he will be able to make a more informed choice about his future.
