Preston North End have confirmed the signing of Calvin Ramsay, a right-sided defender from Liverpool, on a season-long loan.

Ramsay, a Scottish international, will join North End on July 15th, becoming the club’s first new signing of the summer.

Ramsay began his career in the Scottish Premiership with Aberdeen, where he rose through the ranks until joining Liverpool in June 2022.

“I’m delighted to join Preston North End,” the 19-year-old player stated his happiness at the transfer. The Championship is a high division, as everyone knows, and the most important thing for me is to acquire playing time, which I’ll be able to achieve at a strong team. I’m excited to get started.”

Ramsay praised the move’s potential for his career, adding that having consistent playing time in a competitive league is critical for his growth.

Ramsay made his senior debut for Aberdeen in March 2021 and went on to make 39 appearances for the club.

His ability and perseverance earned him the Scottish Football Writers’ Association’s Young Player of the Year award for the 2021/22 season, his first full season in professional football.

Following that, he signed a long-term contract with Premier League club Liverpool, where he has appeared twice, including in the Champions League.

Preston manager Ryan Lowe expressed his delight at the new addition to the squad, saying, “I’m really pleased we’ve managed to get Calvin through the door on a season-long loan.” He fits a position we’ve been seeking for for a while, and he provides us some competition down the right side, where Brad Potts has clearly been great.”

“It also gives us options now.” We have a right back on staff as well as someone who can play right wing back. He’s active and energetic, and he can move himself up and down the pitch. Liverpool clearly spent a lot of money on him after he came through at Aberdeen, so we know what kind of player he is.”
