In light of mounting rumors that Liverpool is considering making a move for the Dutch international, Jurrien Timber has hinted that he would be prepared to quit Ajax this summer.
The 21-year-old made a hint that he would leave Amsterdam in an interview with Vandaag Inside. Timber has recently been vocal about his plans, and 90 Minutes reports that Liverpool is only one of many teams interested in landing the Ajax prodigy.
Timber, who is valued at £50 million and is considered by many to be one of the top young center backs in Europe, appears to have noticed Liverpool’s interest. The Reds are additionally looking for a versatile defender this summer.
In fact, Liverpool is actively looking for Virgil van Dijk’s long-term partner. The Ajax prospect might be ideal for the Merseyside giants given Timber’s status, and the defender hinted that he would be moving following his international duty with the Netherlands.
“I can’t say anything yet, like: okay, I can tell you this,” Timber remarked. I’m not currently conversing with Ajax. I had a few brief conversations with Mislintat in the beginning. He and my agent Chris have had some good conversations, but right now, nothing really needs to be discussed. Will I continue to work for Ajax? I won’t say that, sorry.
Timber’s most recent remarks have once more fueled rumors that he may leave Ajax in the upcoming weeks. Liverpool is seeking for a player with the defender’s profile and is interested in him, so the Reds must act quickly to sign the center back.
Since Liverpool needs a defender more than other teams, as is well known, the Anfield giants must make sure they are the first to move in any deal to sign the 21-year-old star. Timber is likely to be on the radar for many of Europe’s top clubs.
