Despite having agreed personal terms with, Liverpool are reportedly unwilling to match Brighton & Hove Albion’s £70 million asking price

According to 90min, the Reds have expressed concerns about paying so much for the 24-year-old, but there is an understanding that a deal could still be done despite Liverpool’s refusal to meet Brighton’s demands for Mac Allister.

According to the report, the Argentine international is expected to become Liverpool’s first summer signing as Jurgen Klopp prepares to overhaul his midfield options in the coming weeks, with Mac Allister a player who could be ideal for the Anfield side.

Former Premier League goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer described him as a ‘unbelievable’ talent, and the Brighton star has been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League this season, as well as establishing himself as a star on the international stage with Argentina.

Given how good Mac Allister has been this season, the Seagulls’ £70 million valuation makes sense. However, given Liverpool’s limited spending power this summer, it’s understandable that the Reds are adamant about paying the full fee demanded by Brighton.

Liverpool must yield to Brighton’s desire to sign Mac Allister.

Based on the midfielder’s overall form for Brighton over the last few seasons, £70 million may appear to be an overpayment. However, if Liverpool are to bring the 24-year-old to Merseyside in a timely manner, they will have to pay the transfer fee.

As we all know, Liverpool are looking to sign more than one midfielder this summer, and while Mac Allister is likely to be the Reds’ most expensive signing, £70 million may look like a steal if the Argentine hits the ground running at Anfield.
