Ally McCoist told talkSPORT Breakfast on March 15th that midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum misses Liverpool and has struggled since leaving the club in 2021

He joined PSG on a free transfer after his contract with Liverpool expired in the summer of 2021, and he is now on loan at Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

Jurgen Klopp could use Wijnaldum, a midfielder with great intellect, dependability, and box-to-box qualities, right now, given the club’s problems, particularly in midfield.

When a player leaves a team, his worth and need inside the squad grow, and Wijnaldum is no exception right now.

But, while the Reds could use him right now, it hasn’t been easy for the player, who has had to contend with a long-term injury since leaving Merseyside.

Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist of talkSPORT discussed this ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League match against Real Madrid on Wednesday night.

“Wijnaldum was mentioned there, I saw him playing up front for Roma the other day,” Brazil stated. “Tammy Abraham was warming up.”

“He has truly struggled since he departed,” McCoist answered. It was incredible. They have unquestionably (missed him). I thought they missed him when he left Liverpool, but I think he misses them. It was ineffective.”

REFRESHING LIVERPOOL’S MIDFIELD

Liverpool will replace their midfield this summer, although a few years too late.

Some feel that immediately before Wijnaldum left, or throughout the summer when he was heading for the exit door, a few new faces should have been brought in.

Yet, for whatever reason, it didn’t happen, and Liverpool is now paying the price. The club will be praying that things do not worsen and that they do not finish outside of the top four, which would cost them when trying to acquire new players.
