Liverpool’s £32 million signing was a ‘pointless signing’ at Anfield

According to journalist Dean Jones, Liverpool midfielder Arthur Melo was a ‘pointless signing’ at Anfield.

The Brazilian was signed last summer, but it’s safe to say he’s been a dud thus far.

Arthur joined Liverpool on loan from Italian club Juventus at the start of the season.

According to Sky Sports, the Merseyside club has a £32 million option to buy Arthur at the end of the season.

However, according to FBref, the 26-year-old has yet to play a minute in the Premier League, so you’d think Liverpool won’t rush to exercise the option to buy Arthur.

Despite their midfield’s struggles this season, Jurgen Klopp, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, does not trust Arthur.

Arthur was signed late in the summer transfer window, when Liverpool was desperate for a midfielder.

According to Transfermarkt, Arthur has missed 26 games for Liverpool this season due to surgery.

With Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and James Milner all out of contract in the summer, the Reds are desperate for midfield reinforcements, but Arthur’s temporary stay in the north west does not appear to be extended.

Despite his lack of impact at Anfield, Klopp has expressed his admiration for Arthur, saying, “I would like to wish the best to Arthur as his loan period comes to an end — his professionalism and ability were clear to all who worked with him.”

What did Jones have to say about Arthur?
Jones claimed Arthur was a pointless signing for Liverpool, which didn’t make much sense at the time.

“It was a strange one when it first happened,” he told GIVEMESPORT. It caught everyone off guard and was not particularly exciting. “I think you now see it as a bit of a pointless signing.”

Who could Liverpool bring in to play in midfield?
According to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs, Liverpool now have a better chance than their Premier League rivals to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount.

Meanwhile, Football Insider claims that Liverpool have offered Alexis MacAllister of Brighton & Hove Albion a contract that would triple his salary.

Another possibility is Ryan Gravenberch, with Fabrizio Romano telling GIVEMESPORT that if he becomes available, Klopp’s team will be in the running to sign him.
