Liverpool injury update: Updates on Roberto Firmino and Darwin Nez ahead of the Reds’ Premier League match against Aston Villa this weekend

Liverpool has just two games left in the Premier League season, and the Reds are hoping to sneak into the top four ahead of either Newcastle or Manchester United.

That is only possible if Jürgen Klopp’s team wins both of its remaining games — against Aston Villa at Anfield and then away at already-relegated Southampton — with goal difference potentially playing a role.

Newcastle’s remaining home games are against Brighton and Leicester City (both of which take place later today), followed by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on the final day.

Manchester United hosts Bournemouth this weekend before hosting Chelsea and Fulham at Old Trafford next week to round out the season.

It is unlikely that either of the teams mentioned above will drop enough points to allow Liverpool to pull ahead, with the fixtures clearly favoring Liverpool finishing the season in a Europa League spot, but the Reds can only keep winning and hoping.

Liverpool will have at least one player return from injury for its remaining matches, though several others are still out. Here’s the latest injury news from Liverpool.com.

Thiago Alcantara

Thiago Alcântara
The Spaniard is set to miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery. Thiago is expected to return for pre-season this summer, where he will hope to stay fit for longer periods.

Thiago has been out with a hip injury since the 3-0 loss to Wolves, and while he did make a comeback, he was then ruled out again.

Naby Keta’s
Keta may have played his final minutes for Liverpool with his contract expiring and his departure already confirmed. He is still not back in training, and there are only two games left in which he could play.

Even if he is fit to face Aston Villa or Southampton, there is a good chance that others will be ahead of him in the pecking order because he has been out for so long and Curtis Jones and others have stepped up.

Calvin Ramsay and Stefan Bajeti
Both young players, like Thiago, will not play again this season. Bajeti and Ramsay, on the other hand, will hope to be available for pre-season before a season in which they could both make an impact.

Bajeti was a mainstay until his season-ending injury, while Ramsay must recover from a string of injuries that have hampered his time at Anfield thus far.

Roberto Firmino and Darwin Nez
Nez is a doubt for the weekend after missing the win over Leicester City on Monday due to a minor toe injury. He was not spotted in training pictures on Wednesday.

Firmino, on the other hand, was present with his teammates during the session as Liverpool prepared for Aston Villa. In his pre-match press conference on Friday, Klopp will provide an update on the pair.
