The Reds midfielder was instrumental in the Reds’ 3-0 win over Leicester City last night. Jones scored Liverpool’s first goal in the 33rd minute with a fine first-time volley before sweeping home the second three minutes later.

The academy graduate has now started the last nine games for Klopp’s side, which is unbeaten after drawing two and winning the previous seven. Jones is having the best season of his Liverpool career, despite being a peripheral figure for much of the season.

Klopp believes Jones has improved his ability to counter-press, as well as his decision-making on the ball.

“He improved a lot, so I think a lot of things came together,” Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said. You should keep in mind that he is still a young boy, and he used to play great games for us a few years ago. Then he had a difficult spell with injuries – strange injuries, a finger in the eye, and so on. It had been bothering him for a while, but this year was especially bad.

“He could watch a lot of football, he could understand the game better, and it appears to be the case.” I believe his counter-pressing has improved the most, as has his speed of play. He doesn’t keep the ball for as long as he used to – he does it now and then, but he is much faster in decision-making and stuff like that.

“We’ve seen that he’s a good finisher a couple of times now, both goals were absolutely exceptional.” I’m not sure they were legitimate chances. First, he scored with his left foot, similar to his previous goal [against Tottenham]. The second one is a fantastic finish. He’s having a great time right now.”
