One of Jurgen Klopp’s targets has reportedly requested a move to the six-time European champions, giving Liverpool’s search for new midfielders a huge boost
Separate reports suggest that long-term Anfield employee James Milner may be on his way out, with Brighton interested in signing the former England international.
It’s no secret that Liverpool’s summer transfer window in 2023 will revolve around their pursuit of central midfielders, with the position regarded as a key weakness by many critics ever since Gini Wijnaldum’s departure.
Thiago, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have all struggled with injuries in recent seasons, leaving a gap in the middle of the pitch for Liverpool. However, after appearing to be unsuccessful in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund wunderkind Jude Bellingham, Liverpool could instead sign another young Bundesliga star in Ryan Gravenberch.
In recent months, the Bayern Munich midfielder has been heavily linked with The Reds, with Manchester United also thought to be interested.
Gravenberch first drew the attention of clubs across Europe while at Ajax, where he put in some impressive performances in both the Champions League and the Eredivisie during the 2021/22 season.
However, minutes have been scarcer at Bayern this season, leaving the 20-year-old dissatisfied with his situation.
Gravenberch, according to renowned German football expert Christian Falk, is now preparing to request a move to Anfield this summer, despite Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel’s wishes.
Falk writes in his caughtoffside column that the Dutch international will’make it clear’ to his current club that he wants to move to the Premier League, and that Klopp is a huge fan.
He adds that Tuchel’s involvement may complicate matters, as the former Chelsea manager may try to persuade Gravenberch to stay for another season.
Gravenberch isn’t the only man on Liverpool’s apparent midfield wishlist, with Alexis MacAllister, Khephren Thuram, and Manuel Ugarte all linked with summer moves in recent weeks.
Milner, who is set to become a free agent this summer when his Liverpool contract expires, is one player who is not expected to be among Liverpool’s midfield options next season.
Brighton are the current favourites to sign the 37-year-old, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, with newly-promoted Burnley also interested.
