Liverpool certainly made life difficult for themselves by allowing Forest back into the game through sloppy defending.

Diogo Jota scored just after halftime with a well-placed header, but Steve Cooper’s men responded immediately through former Liverpool youngster Neco Williams.

The Portuguese forward scored his second goal of the game with a brilliant finish, and despite Morgan Gibbs White’s equalizer, Mohamed Salah’s effort in the 70th minute proved decisive.

Liverpool won deservedly, and Klopp will be encouraged by Jota’s performance in particular.

After a lengthy layoff, the £41 million forward appears to have rediscovered his scoring touch just in time.

Jermain Defoe was also impressed with his performance at Anfield yesterday.

Defoe praises ‘brilliant’ Jota On Match of the Day, the former Tottenham midfielder admitted that he’s a huge fan of Jota and was particularly impressed with his finishing yesterday.

“He’s someone I’ve always admired, to be honest,” said Defoe. “He scored a lot of goals even while at Wolves.”

“I think Liverpool has missed him this season.” I’ve always admired him; he’s a fantastic player. You can see how effective he can be in these clips.

“You see him here at the back post, and if you look at his profile, he’s only 5 feet 10 inches tall.” Unfortunately, [he] makes first contact here.

“You can see where the goal comes from here, the first one to be alive, and that’s a brave header.” He sees the defender’s number and moves in front of him to score.”

“I’m really impressed by this finish – to improvise and get the finish across the goalkeeper is fantastic,” he added.

“He probably couldn’t believe the amount of time he got, but to be composed like that when you’ve been out for such a long time and finish.”

“He was excellent today, very sharp.” “I’m very impressed,” he added.

Jota had looked sluggish after returning from injury, but Klopp has preferred him to Darwin Nunez.

It’s certainly paying off for Jota and Liverpool right now, as they haven’t lost since the end of March.

The Reds appear to be hitting form at the right time, and while yesterday’s win wasn’t exactly convincing, it keeps their Champions League hopes alive.
