Diogo Jota of Liverpool was praised by BBC Sport pundit Glenn Murray for his performance against Nottingham Forest

The Reds faced the Blues in a 3 p.m. kickoff at Anfield on Saturday.

By halftime, neither team had broken the deadlock, with Forest doing a good job of frustrating Liverpool.

Jota then put Jurgen Klopp’s side ahead in the 47th minute, nodding home from close range.

On 51 minutes, Neco Williams equalized for Forest against his former club, netting via a deflection.

The City Ground outfit, however, was only level for four minutes before Jota made it two against the visitors.

A Liverpool free kick caught Forest’s defense off guard, with the £140,000-a-week ace comfortably onside.

He ran with good timing, controlled the ball, and fired low across Keylor Navas.

Murray, speaking on Final Score, praised Jota’s performance but questioned the Forest defense.

“He’s got brilliant awareness, Diogo Jota,” Murray said, according to the BBC Sport website.

“But where was the defending from the Forest’s perspective?”

“It’s a brilliant skill by Jota, but there’s no Forest man nearby.”

Steve Cooper’s charges restored parity midway through the second half.

Morgan Gibbs-White volleyed home on 67 minutes, thanks to a deflection off Ibrahima Konate.

And, once again, Liverpool did not take long to take the lead. In fact, it only took three minutes.

Liverpool held on for all three points in an entertaining 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest.

‘I’ve made amends’
Jota received an 8 out of 10 rating from Ian Doyle of the Liverpool Echo for his efforts on the day.

‘Missed a big chance in the first half with a free header at the far post,’ he said.

‘However, I made amends with a poacher’s first and a fantastic finish for second. Subbed.’

Meanwhile, Jota received the highest rating of any Liverpool player (8.19) from Whoscored.com.

They rated him as the match’s second-best player, with Forest’s Gibbs-White receiving 8.45.
