After ‘productive’ talks with the Chelsea midfielder, Liverpool have indicated that they are willing to meet Mason Mount’s wage demands
The England international is getting closer to leaving Stamford Bridge after failing to reach an agreement with the club on a new contract.
Mount’s current contract expires in 2024, and he turned down Chelsea’s most recent offer, which fell short of his rumoured £200,000-a-week salary demands.
Chelsea will not let Mount run down his contract and will look to sell the midfielder this summer if a new contract cannot be reached.
Mount’s situation has piqued the interest of Premier League clubs including Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United.
However, Liverpool are the frontrunners for Mount’s signature, with Jurgen Klopp seeing the England international as a perfect starting acquisition as he revamps his midfield.
Liverpool have already held preliminary talks with Mount’s representatives, and Goal reports that the talks were ‘productive,’ with both parties eager to reach an agreement.
According to reports, the Reds have agreed to meet Mount’s wage demands, giving them an advantage over Chelsea.
Liverpool will see Mount up close and personal tonight when they travel to Stamford Bridge to face the Blues.
On Saturday, Jurgen Klopp’s team was defeated 4-1 by Manchester City, and they face leaders Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday.
