UNC has welcomed plenty of talented freshmen over the years, but few have stepped in as quickly and as confidently as Caleb Wilson. At 6’10’’ and brimming with versatility, the Atlanta native is already proving he’s one of the most exciting young players in the college game.
Born on July 18, 2006, Wilson grew up in Atlanta and made a name for himself at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School. His combination of size, athleticism, and polished skill turned him into a dominant presence on both ends of the court. Over his final two seasons, he averaged more than 21 points and pulled down double-digit rebounds, leading his team to a Georgia private school state title and establishing himself as one of the most complete forwards in the nation.
His high school success propelled him onto major national stages, including the McDonald’s All-American Game, where he impressed scouts and analysts. Recruiting outlets unanimously rated him a five-star prospect, and he became one of the most heavily pursued players in the 2025 class.
Programs like Kentucky and Ohio State made strong pushes, but Wilson surprised many by committing to North Carolina—calling Chapel Hill the place that immediately felt right. For UNC, his decision was a major win on the recruiting trail.

In one of the most anticipated early-season matchups, Wilson posted 24 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals—numbers only three other Tar Heels have ever recorded in a single game. His performance earned him both ACC Co-Player of the Week and Co-Rookie of the Week.
He didn’t slow down afterward, opening his freshman year with back-to-back double-doubles, something no UNC player had done since 2020. His 21-point, 13-rebound outing against N.C. Central only added to the buzz surrounding him.
