A tough setback has hit former Kentucky Wildcats point guard Lamont Butler.
The ex-Kentucky standout and current College Park Skyhawks guard announced on Wednesday that he’ll miss the entire 2025–26 basketball season after tearing both his meniscus and ACL.
Butler, who signed with the Atlanta Hawks’ G-League affiliate in July, shared the unfortunate update on social media. Though clearly disappointed, he expressed faith and gratitude as he begins his long road to recovery.
“This is tough to say, but I’ll be out for the season with a torn meniscus and torn ACL,” Butler wrote. “I was so excited to start the season with the Skyhawks and prove I belong at this level. One wrong move, and everything changed. But I know God will be with me every step of the way through this recovery.”

Despite the setback, Butler promised to remain upbeat and focused on healing. “Please keep me in your prayers for a speedy recovery,” he added. “I’ll still be smiling and spreading love. See y’all next season.”
During his final year at Kentucky, Butler averaged 11.4 points, 4.3 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game, emerging as one of the team’s most dependable leaders and defensive anchors. His energy and two-way play were instrumental in guiding the Wildcats to the NCAA Tournament.
The Skyhawks had expected Butler to be a stabilizing force in their backcourt this season, making his injury a tough loss. Still, Butler’s message leaves no doubt — he’s determined to return stronger than ever.
