Kasper Schmeichel Still Going Strong at Celtic Despite Retirement Talk
Kasper Schmeichel has proven to be a dependable figure at Celtic. When Joe Hart announced his retirement, many supporters were anxious about who would fill the void left by the legendary keeper.
Given how poorly Vasilis Barkas performed during his stint at the club, fans had every reason to be nervous about the next man between the sticks. But Brendan Rodgers moved quickly, securing the experienced Kasper Schmeichel, and apart from a disappointing performance in last season’s Scottish Cup final, the Danish veteran has been a solid presence for the Hoops.
Now 38—and turning 39 in November—questions have surfaced about whether Schmeichel is nearing the end of his career. But according to the man himself, retirement is far from his mind.

Schmeichel Dismisses Retirement Talk: “That’s Not My Mindset”
After missing several weeks toward the end of Celtic’s double-winning season due to injury, some thought Schmeichel might be considering hanging up his gloves. However, the keeper told the Daily Record that he’s not even entertaining the idea of stepping away from the game.
“That’s not my mindset. I haven’t done everything. There’s still so much to achieve,” he said.
“I’ve never been someone who thinks in limitations or boundaries. Right now, I’m simply enjoying playing football. I love being at a club where the culture is built on winning. That inspires me daily to push myself and maintain those standards.
As long as I feel that motivation and passion, I’ll continue playing.”
