UNC Offers Another NBA Legacy Recruit, This Time in 2026 Star Bryson Howard
The UNC basketball program continues to make waves on the recruiting trail — and it’s no coincidence that NBA bloodlines are playing a role in their latest offers.
Just days after offering Class of 2026 standout Tajh Ariza, son of former NBA forward Trevor Ariza, head coach Hubert Davis has now extended a scholarship to another prospect with NBA roots: Bryson Howard, the son of longtime league veteran Josh Howard.
Bryson, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound wing from Frisco, Texas, took to social media to announce the offer from North Carolina. A four-star talent in the 2026 class, he currently ranks No. 28 nationally and sits at No. 2 in Texas, according to the latest 247Sports rankings.
Howard is quickly becoming one of the hottest names in the class. Since June 13, he’s picked up offers from a host of elite programs, including:
-
Maryland
-
Michigan
-
Duke
-
UConn
-
Virginia
-
Rutgers
-
Kentucky
-
North Carolina
And the list is still growing. With nearly 20 schools already in pursuit — including an offer from his father’s alma mater, Wake Forest — it’s clear that Howard’s recruitment is heating up fast.
According to 247Sports’ Adam Finkelstein, Howard brings elite tools to the table:
“Howard is an athletic southpaw wing with good positional size, a high motor, and terrific frame that is only going to keep filling out. He plays above the rim, finishes through contact, and has a shooting stroke that translates. He’s also a lob threat, can make shots off movement, and competes on the defensive end with excellent court coverage.”
UNC has been actively targeting high-upside wings and guards across the 2026 and 2027 cycles, and Howard checks nearly every box — versatility, athleticism, defensive upside, and NBA pedigree. With likely roster turnover ahead for the Tar Heels, adding a dynamic wing like Howard could help stabilize the perimeter core for years to come.
As Hubert Davis continues to shape the future of Carolina basketball, recruiting elite talent with family ties to the game seems to be a growing theme — and Bryson Howard fits right in.
