No. 1 Prospect Tyran Stokes Delays Kentucky Visit to Return to the EYBL Circuit: What It Means for the Wildcats
Kentucky fans will have to wait a little longer for a potential future Wildcat to step on campus.
Tyran Stokes, the consensus No. 1 prospect in the 2026 recruiting class, has officially postponed his visit to Kentucky, which was originally scheduled for May 15–17. The reason? He’s lacing up his sneakers for a highly anticipated return to the Nike EYBL Circuit, joining the Oakland Soldiers for the first live period of the summer in Memphis from May 16–18.
While the delay may disappoint Big Blue Nation, this move says a lot about where Stokes is right now and what his next steps might be.
A Star in the Making
Standing 6-foot-7 and weighing in at 225 pounds, Stokes isn’t just another top recruit he’s a generational athlete. With elite size, strength, and versatility at the small forward position, he brings a rare combination of unselfishness, explosiveness, and court awareness that has coaches across the country dreaming about his potential.
“He’s a once-in-every-few-years physical specimen,” said Notre Dame High School coach Matt Sargeant. “Combine that competitiveness with that unselfishness, athletic ability, and size, and you’ve got a pretty good basketball player.”
Stokes has already taken official visits to Louisville and Kansas, two of Kentucky’s fiercest rivals in the recruiting landscape. But Big Blue is very much in the race.
Mark Pope’s Recruitment Push
When Mark Pope took over as Kentucky’s head coach this spring, one of his first major recruiting moves was to extend an offer to Stokes. He quickly sent assistant coach Jason Hart who has strong ties to California to lead the charge. Hart has already made multiple trips to watch Stokes and has been the primary point of contact throughout the recruitment process.
Although the Kentucky visit has been postponed, sources confirm that it will be rescheduled. Pope and Hart are playing the long game with Stokes, knowing that getting him on campus whether in the summer or fall could shift the momentum in their favor.
Building a Powerhouse in Lexington
Meanwhile, Kentucky’s 2025-26 roster is shaping up to be a perfect fit for a player like Stokes. With a mix of experienced transfers, rising stars, and promising freshmen, Pope is assembling a team that blends toughness, talent, and upside.
Confirmed Commitments (7):
- Kam Williams (Tulane)
- Jaland Lowe (Pittsburgh)
- Mouhamed Dioubate (Alabama)
- Jayden Quaintance (Arizona State)
- Andrija Jelavic (Mega Basket)
- Denzel Aberdeen (Florida)
- Reece Potter (Miami-OH)
Returning/Incoming Players (6):
- Otega Oweh (decision pending NBA Draft)
- Brandon Garrison
- Collin Chandler
- Trent Noah
- Malachi Moreno (incoming freshman)
- Jasper Johnson (incoming freshman)
With two dynamic Kentucky-born guards in Jasper Johnson and Trent Noah already in the fold, and elite size in players like Moreno and Quaintance, adding Tyran Stokes to the mix would elevate Kentucky into championship conversation not just in the SEC, but nationally.
What’s Next?
Stokes’ performance in Memphis will be closely watched by scouts and college coaches alike. If he dominates the EYBL Circuit, as many expect, his stock will soar even higher if that’s even possible.
As for Kentucky, they remain firmly in the mix. Pope’s enthusiasm, Hart’s relationship-building, and the tradition of Kentucky basketball are all working in their favor. Now it’s just a matter of when not if Tyran Stokes makes his way to Lexington.
