Duke Reigns Supreme: Blue Devils Sweep ACC Regular Season and Tournament Titles for 23rd Crown

The Duke Blue Devils have reaffirmed their place among college basketball’s elite, adding yet another chapter to their storied legacy with a commanding run through the 2024–25 season. With their 23rd ACC Tournament title now in hand, the Blue Devils also completed a rare and impressive sweep of both the regular-season and tournament championships — a feat that underscores their dominance from start to finish.

Even with roster turnover from the previous year, Duke entered the season with high expectations, leaning on a mix of returning contributors and a talented incoming freshman class. Any concerns about chemistry or depth were quickly put to rest, as head coach Mike Krzyzewski’s squad found its rhythm early and never looked back.

Led by freshman standout Caleb O’Neill, sharpshooter Michael Thompson, and senior veteran Chris Davis, the Blue Devils finished the ACC regular season with a 15–3 record, showcasing elite defense and balanced scoring. O’Neill’s playmaking, Thompson’s perimeter shooting, and Davis’s leadership were key ingredients in Duke’s success on both ends of the floor.

Duke entered the ACC Tournament as the top seed and made quick work of the competition. They dismantled NC State in the quarterfinals behind O’Neill’s 22 points and Davis’s steady play. In the semifinals, Duke clamped down defensively to beat Virginia, holding them to 35% shooting and forcing numerous turnovers.

The championship game delivered the ultimate showdown — Duke vs. North Carolina. In a fierce battle between longtime rivals, Duke pulled away late, thanks to a late surge powered by O’Neill, Davis, and Thompson. The Blue Devils earned a 76–64 win, capturing their 23rd tournament crown. O’Neill took home MVP honors with a strong all-around performance.

By winning both the regular-season and tournament titles, Duke achieved a rare sweep — the first by any team in the ACC in several years. It was a crowning moment for a group that had grown steadily throughout the season and proved their mettle in high-pressure moments.

With momentum on their side, Duke now shifts its focus to the NCAA Tournament. Armed with experience, depth, and top-tier coaching, the Blue Devils are poised to make a serious national title push. Whether or not that journey ends with another championship banner remains to be seen — but this team has already carved out a place in Duke’s decorated history.
