Travis Perry Watch Heats Up: Kentucky Transfer Schedules Maryland Visit, Hosts In-Home Recruiting Blitz
College basketball’s hottest free agent is on the move. Former Kentucky Wildcat Travis Perry, the all-time leading scorer in Kentucky high school basketball history, is officially making moves in the transfer portal — and the list of suitors is growing fast.
Sources tell KSR that Perry has locked in his first official visit since entering the portal: a trip to Maryland, beginning this Sunday. The Terrapins, now led by former Texas A&M head coach Buzz Williams, have made Perry a top priority, wasting no time jumping into the race.
“Pushing hard,” one source close to Maryland told KSR. “We need him.”
But Maryland isn’t alone. Perry is also hosting multiple in-home meetings with high-major programs this weekend. Among them? Ole Miss, where head coach Chris Beard is making an aggressive pitch. The Rebels have been considered an early favorite, possibly setting the stage for a dramatic SEC reunion if Perry ends up going head-to-head with his former team.
Other programs in the mix include Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Missouri, LSU, Georgia, South Carolina, Louisville, Iowa, and Western Kentucky, each vying for the 6-1 guard’s signature.
Why the frenzy? Despite a limited role as a freshman at Kentucky, Perry showed glimpses of poise and promise. He averaged 2.7 points in 9.7 minutes across 31 games, including four starts. With injuries decimating UK’s backcourt, Perry stepped in when it mattered most.
He finished the season shooting 31.3% from the field, 32.1% from deep, and a reliable 80% from the free-throw line. Those numbers don’t jump off the page, but his pedigree and high school resume — plus his work ethic and basketball IQ — are making him a hot commodity.
Perry, once a consensus four-star recruit and the No. 81 overall player in the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings, originally chose Kentucky over Alabama, Cincinnati, Ole Miss, and WKU. Now, he’s evaluating a fresh start.
What’s next? It starts with this weekend’s in-home meetings and the trip to College Park. From there, the picture will become clearer — but make no mistake:
Travis Perry is one of the most wanted men in the portal.
And this recruitment?
It’s just getting started.
