‘A deal has been agreed upon…’ – For Liverpool fans, Jacque Talbot provides an interesting transfer update.

Liverpool and Brighton and Hove Albion appear to have switched places recently, with the club taking up the mantle that the Reds had discarded both on and off the field

The Seagulls’ recruitment has seen them sign high-potential players like Yves Bissouma and Marc Cucurella on the cheap before selling them for large sums later on.

Moises Caicedo is the latest clever business move by the South Coast-based enterprise, which has Merseysiders scratching their heads during internal debates over their apparent market misstep.

“Clearly, he is a player destined to play at the highest level,” GOAL’s Neil Jones observed.

Liverpool are admirers, and there have been internal talks at Anfield about why the club wasn’t all over him when he left Ecuador two years ago.

“In fact, Caicedo appears to have his pick of teams in the summer, when he will have two years remaining on his contract and when Brighton will try to cash in, as they have done effectively with the likes of Bissouma, Ben White, Leandro Trossard, and Marc Cucurella.”

With a price of about £100 million, it’s a mistake that will undoubtedly cost Jurgen Klopp’s team a lot of money to repair, which is far from ideal given the cost of a transfer for Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.

We’re unlikely to be able to afford both the England international and Caicedo in the same window unless we’re willing to move a top player or find a new owner before the summer window.

While it’s encouraging to see Liverpool throwing their weight around in the market and committing huge sums to elite talent, there was a time when Michael Edwards’ recruitment staff was in charge of snatching up rough diamonds on the cheap for Klopp to shape into world-beaters.

As absurd as the market can be at times, we find it difficult to believe that similar deals like the £8m and £25m transactions that brought Andy Robertson and Gini Wijnaldum to Anfield aren’t available.
