According to reports, Philippe Clement is entitled to a substantially greater payout from Rangers than previously assumed
The decision to oust the Belgian as head coach was announced by the Ibrox club on Sunday night, with former captain Barry Ferguson taking over as temporary manager until the end of the season.
According to The Daily Record, Clement’s settlement price is now understood to be substantially larger than £1.2 million, as reported last week.
After signing a contract extension in the summer that would have kept him at the club until 2028, Clement’s severance package increased significantly.
The ultimate number is still being negotiated between the Ibrox management and the departing manager.
There have also been rumors that Clement agreed to waive half of his pay-off.
It is unclear if Clement will be paid in full or placed on gardening leave.

Former Rangers Boss Gerrard Tipped for Ibrox Return
The former manager remains in charge until the end of the season, with Steven Gerrard emerging as a leading candidate to replace Philippe Clement permanently.
Ex-Rangers boss Gerrard has been named the frontrunner to take over at Ibrox following Clement’s departure. While Barry Ferguson has stepped in as interim manager, there remains a possibility that the Liverpool legend could make a dramatic return once the season concludes. Clement was dismissed on Sunday after a poor campaign, with Rangers facing a trophyless season. A disappointing defeat to St Mirren at Ibrox proved to be the final blow.
Gerrard is currently out of work following an unsuccessful stint at Al-Ettifaq. After leaving Ibrox for a shot at the English Premier League, he was sacked by Aston Villa before making a surprise move to the Saudi Pro League. However, his tenure with Ettifaq ended earlier this season with the club struggling near the bottom of the table.
Despite his mixed results since departing Glasgow, Ally McCoist was quick to suggest the title-winning manager as a candidate to replace Clement. Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “Stevie Gerrard would be in the conversation. Kevin Muscat has won three different leagues in three different countries. There’s one or two options, but there are not any glaring options.”
Reports now indicate that Gerrard is unlikely to take another job before April due to potential tax complications in Saudi Arabia, according to talkSPORT.
For now, Ferguson remains in charge at Ibrox until at least the summer, appointing Allan McGregor, Billy Dodds, and Neil McCann to his coaching staff. The former captain could make a case to extend his stay, but the path for Gerrard to return may become clearer once the season ends.
