Rangers are discussing an unusual homecoming for former Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard.
That’s according to sources after the revelation that Rangers fired Belgian manager Philippe Clement.
While there is still no official update on the Rangers manager’s present predicament, interest is already shifting to who the Ibrox side will face next.
Rangers ‘in negotiations’ with Steven Gerrard
Rangers are in the middle of a US takeover, which is scheduled to be finalized before the summer.
It has brought another layer to the issue at Ibrox, with Rangers supporters strongly supporting the prospect of a temporary manager.
According to Reuters writer Luca Chianti, Rangers are planning to move rapidly to find a replacement for Steven Gerrard, with the club already in talks.
A post on X begins: “Rangers board move quickly to appoint new manager with Steven Gerrard preferred by board and in talks.”
Gerrard is out of job after leaving Al-Ettifaq earlier this season, and he is thought to be the board’s ‘preferred’ candidate as things stand.
Steven Gerrard took over Rangers in the summer of 2018 and led the team to the Scottish Premiership title in 2021.

The next season, Steven Gerrard joined Aston Villa after a lack of summer investment preceded an early drop in form at Ibrox.
If the former Rangers manager is successful in returning to Ibrox, he will once again confront Brendan Rodgers at Celtic.
Rangers also had ‘discussions’ with Sean Dyche.
It is not just Steven Gerrard who is apparently in talks with the Rangers board over the freshly vacant Ibrox managerial role.
According to Luca Chianti, Rangers are also in ‘concurrent conversations’ with Sean Dyche, the former Burnley and Everton manager.
Rangers will play Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Wednesday evening, with a Europa League fixture against Fenerbahce coming up in less than a fortnight.
For the time being, it is unknown if Rangers will seek to hire a caretaker until the conclusion of the season or make a permanent appointment.
