Peter Grant speculates that the Rangers haven’t fired Clement yet because of a “major problem.”

Philippe Clement has little left to fight for at Rangers, with the remainder of the season feeling uninspired aside from their European campaign.

The Belgian secured Rangers’ most significant result of the season by defeating Union Saint-Gilloise, earning them a direct spot in the Europa League last 16.

However, recent setbacks have piled on the pressure. A shocking Scottish Cup exit at the hands of Queen’s Park and a League Cup final heartbreak against Celtic have left the league title seemingly out of reach.

Former Celtic and Scotland player Peter Grant believes there is no way back for Clement in the eyes of the supporters. He suggests the Rangers board may be reluctant to part ways with him due to financial constraints, questioning whether the club can afford both his dismissal and a quality replacement.

“The manager must be wondering what’s next, but I don’t see a way back for him. There’s nothing left to win, and Rangers can’t keep accepting this,” Grant said on the *Go Radio Football Show* (13 February).

He also raised concerns about Rangers’ ability to fund a managerial change while maintaining squad investment. “At Rangers, you’re judged on trophies—nothing else.”

Clement’s struggles bear similarities to Ange Postecoglou’s current challenges at Tottenham. Both managers have seen their teams underperform in league campaigns, despite flashes of brilliance. Rangers’ highlight was their 2025 New Year victory over Celtic, while Spurs stunned English champions Manchester City with a 4-0 win.

With both clubs now solely focused on the Europa League, Clement will press on. However, it seems only a matter of time before Rangers make a change—a decision that may bring relief to both Clement and the fans eager for a fresh direction.
