Rangers manager Philippe Clement is confident he can regain the trust of his critics by leading the team to victories again, following their Scottish Cup defeat to Queen’s Park.
The loss marked a historic low for the Gers, as it was their first-ever home defeat to a lower-league side in the competition, with Queen’s Park securing a 1-0 win at Ibrox on Sunday.
As a result, Rangers are now out of contention for domestic silverware this season, increasing the pressure on Clement. The Belgian coach has already lost support from some fans, with calls for his dismissal growing, but he remains optimistic about turning things around.
Clement insists he is making progress with the squad and believes that by getting the team back to winning ways, he can restore faith among supporters.
“I know what we are doing with the club, given the budget we had before the season, the budget available in the winter transfer window, and the progress the players are making.
“And you all have acknowledged in recent weeks the development of this player, that player, and others.”
Rangers now face a crucial Scottish Premiership match against Hearts, where Clement will be well aware of the importance of securing all three points at Tynecastle.
