Alex Lowry is signed by Wycombe Wanderers while another Rangers player is about to leave.
Another Rangers player is scheduled to complete his departure from Ibrox this week as Wycombe Wanderers confirmed the signing of Alex Lowry. The Scotland Under-21 player has permanently moved south of the line to join Wycombe Wanderers, who are vying for promotion in League One.
Lowry, who occasionally displayed flashes of genius while wearing a Rangers sweater, found it difficult to build on those initial showings. He is now heading to Wycombe in an attempt to revive his bright career after an unimpressive loan stint at Hearts.
Rabbi Matondo Seek to Rekindle Career at Coventry City
Another player hoping for a new beginning in England is Rabbi Matondo. The 2024–25 season had looked to be the year Matondo would make a name for himself at Rangers after a spectacular performance against Ross County in August, in which he scored two goals and provided two assists, but an unfortunate hamstring injury kept the Welsh international out until December.
When Matondo returned, he was out of favor as Ianis Hagi found his form again and new signing Nedim Bajrami secured a place in Philippe Clement’s starting lineup.
It appeared as though Clement’s decision to leave Matondo out of the team for Rangers’ 3-0 victory over Aberdeen and their subsequent Scottish Cup victory against Fraserburgh hinted at his impending departure. Matondo was noticeably missing, and Bailey Rice and Zak Lovelace were favored. The £3 million acquisition from Schalke 04 now seems ready to conclude his Rangers career.
Matondo will sign a loan agreement with Coventry City.
Matondo is joining Coventry City on an initial loan with a £2 million permanent transfer option, according to the Coventry Telegraph. Rangers would only receive two-thirds of the money they paid in 2022 for the former Manchester City and Liverpool prospect.
It’s interesting to note that Matondo will be Coventry City’s first acquisition under Frank Lampard. Prior to Philippe Clement’s appointment, Lampard was a candidate for the Rangers managing position. He now hopes to regain his managerial reputation with the Sky Blues. Likewise, Matondo will be hoping to revitalize his consistently inconsistent career. Regarding his decision to bench Matondo and Kieran Dowell against Aberdeen, Clement remarked, “I made a sporting choice.” “The young guys are doing better right now.”
Prospects for Rangers’ Up-and-Comers
The departure of Matondo might make room for up-and-coming players like Findlay Curtis. Both Connor Barron and Philippe Clement praised the young Rangers player for his performance against Fraserburgh after he came in as a substitute.
Regarding Curtis, Clement said, “He’s been developing really well.” Rangers will now play Queens Park in the following round of the Scottish Cup. He has trained with us regularly for the past few months. However, he is not alone; Bailey Rice, Zak [Lovelace], and others like Paul Nsio are also making significant progress.
As these young players continue to strive for additional opportunities in the first team, Clement underlined the need of sustaining hunger and dedication to growth.
