Fraser Wilson has stated that removing Jack Butland from his Rangers starting lineup in favor of Liam Kelly would make Philippe Clement appear “weak.” Kelly joined the club and played well, but Butland has missed a good number of games during the past month because of an injury.
However, Clement replaced Kelly with his regular number one back in goal as soon as the Englishman was healthy again. But things didn’t exactly go as planned because the former Stoke player gave up the first goal because of a few errors he made against Manchester United.
Wilson expressed his opinions on who should start between Butland and Kelly for their match against Dundee United on Sunday, January 26, in an article published on page 53 of the Daily Record’s print edition on January 25.

He remarked, “I was surprised that he was thrown right back in for such a big occasion.” Liam Kelly had been doing a good enough job, but he needs to react favorably since it would appear weak to turn around and fire Butland now.
After Manchester United’s terrifying performance, Jack Butland needs to get back up at Rangers. To be honest, having Kelly in goal against United on Thursday makes it seem like the team from Ibrox could have at least earned a point.
Butland made a mistake by coming out for the ball and then mistiming his punch, which led to United giving up their first goal. It’s undeniable that the former Crystal Palace goalie is a superior player overall than Kelly, but it’s a lot to expect after just recovering from an injury to play your first game against the Red Devils.
Butland needs to view his performance as a setback so that he can come back to his peak once the season’s second half begins, even though he may not feel particularly well afterward. As the season progresses, he might do far worse than lose a league stage game if he allows it to depress him and consume his thoughts.
