Wycombe Wanderers Secure Alex Lowry as Another Rangers Player Nears Departure
After Wycombe Wanderers confirmed the signing of Alex Lowry, another Rangers player is set to finalize his move away from Ibrox this week.
The Scotland Under-21 international has made a permanent switch south of the border to join League One promotion hopefuls, Wycombe Wanderers.
Lowry, who once showed glimpses of brilliance in a Rangers jersey, struggled to build on those early performances. Following an underwhelming loan spell at Hearts, he now heads to Wycombe in search of revitalizing his promising career.
Rabbi Matondo Looks to Reignite Career at Coventry City
Rabbi Matondo is another player aiming for a fresh start in England.
The 2024/25 season had initially appeared to be the year Matondo would establish himself at Rangers. A dazzling display against Ross County in August, where he notched two goals and two assists, seemed to signal a turning point in his career.
However, an untimely hamstring injury sidelined the Welsh international until December. Upon his return, Matondo found himself out of favor, with Ianis Hagi rediscovering form and new signing Nedim Bajrami securing a spot in Philippe Clement’s lineup.

Clement’s decision to omit Matondo from the squad for Rangers’ 3-0 win over Aberdeen—and later for the Scottish Cup triumph against Fraserburgh—seemed to foreshadow an inevitable departure. Zak Lovelace and Bailey Rice were preferred, while Matondo was conspicuously absent.
Now, the £3 million signing from Schalke 04 appears poised to bring his Rangers stint to an end.
Matondo Set for Coventry City Loan Deal
According to the Coventry Telegraph, Matondo is joining Coventry City on an initial loan that includes an option for a permanent transfer valued at £2 million. This would see Rangers recoup only two-thirds of the fee they invested in the former Liverpool and Manchester City prospect back in 2022.
Interestingly, Matondo will be the first signing under Frank Lampard’s tenure at Coventry City. Lampard, who was considered for the Rangers managerial role before Philippe Clement’s appointment, now aims to rebuild his managerial credentials with the Sky Blues. Similarly, Matondo will hope to rejuvenate his career, which has been marked by inconsistency.
“I made a sporting choice,” Clement said of his decision to drop Matondo and Kieran Dowell against Aberdeen. “At the moment, the young lads are performing better.”
Opportunities for Rangers’ Rising Stars
Matondo’s departure could open the door for emerging talents like Findlay Curtis. The young Rangers player impressed off the bench against Fraserburgh, earning praise from both Connor Barron and Philippe Clement.
“He’s been developing really well,” Clement remarked about Curtis, as Rangers advanced to face Queens Park in the next round of the Scottish Cup. “Over the last few months, he’s trained with us frequently. But it’s not just him—Zak [Lovelace], Bailey Rice, and others like Paul Nsio are also making great strides.”
Clement emphasized the importance of maintaining hunger and commitment to improvement, as these young players continue pushing for more opportunities in the first team.
