He was able to score from all angles and orientations, and he capped off his effort with a tremendous slam right in front of Venning around 6 minutes into the second half.
BC’s Big Men Limited
Forward Elijah Strong was sidelined today due to an injury, leaving Chad Venning and Jayden Hastings to shoulder the most of the big man responsibilities. Hastings looked excellent early on, but suffered a right knee injury late in the first half. Hastings was permitted to return, but he was swiftly sent to the bench after fouling out in only 7 minutes of play, despite scoring 6 points. Once this happened, BC was doomed since Chad Venning was the Eagles’ last big guy remaining. Defensively, Duke was able to transition its bigs to BC’s smaller guards/hybrid forwards, allowing for easy dunks beneath. Venning did had another solid.
Free throw woes
On Saturday night, Boston College was terrible from the line against Duke. Free throw shooting has been an issue recently, but it pales in comparison to the calamity that was the charity stripe performance against the Blue Devils. BC missed 12 of its 26 free throws, finishing 14/26 for an awful 54% from the line. To put this figure in context, Duke shot 53% from the field as a team that day. Venning missed four of his nine line shots, while Roger McFarlane, Donald Hand Jr., Dion Brown, and Jayden Hastings all shot exactly 50% for the day.
