Rangers are reportedly considering allowing a player who started in Sunday’s 3-3 draw with Hibernian to leave on loan during the January transfer window.
Rangers Transfer News
With Rangers trailing Celtic by 13 points in the league and still needing to secure their place in the Europa League knockout stages, manager Philippe Clement is likely urging the board to complete key transfer deals this month.
Strengthening the defense is a top priority, as the squad is grappling with an injury crisis. Leon Balogun, John Souttar, Neraysho Kasanwirjo, and James Tavernier are all sidelined, leaving the backline depleted.
Reports suggest that Rangers are interested in Manchester United’s Jonny Evans, with the board eager to bring the experienced Northern Irishman to Ibrox before the window closes. However, Clement reportedly has reservations about Evans’ age and prefers a younger alternative.
Other defensive targets include Grant Hanley from Norwich City and former Rangers player Nikola Katic. Hanley has had limited game time with Norwich this season, making him a potential candidate for a move, while Katic is keen to return to the club, and discussions about a possible comeback are underway.
Potential Exit: Ridvan Yilmaz
While Clement is focused on incoming transfers, an outgoing deal could also take place. Turkish side Besiktas are reportedly interested in left-back Ridvan Yilmaz, who joined Rangers in July 2022.
Yilmaz, 23, has struggled for consistent game time since his arrival, featuring 22 times in the Scottish Premiership last season with one goal and one assist. In the current campaign, he has made 10 league appearances, five of which were starts, including the recent draw with Hibernian. Despite being under contract until 2027, Rangers are open to letting Yilmaz leave this month, likely on loan.
Besiktas, who showed interest in Yilmaz during the summer but failed to reach an agreement, are reportedly monitoring the player again. While no formal talks have begun, this situation could develop as the transfer window progresses.
