Keith Jackson feels Philippe Clement has been trying to protect himself by making “scattered” moves, such as bringing Ianis Hagi back into the Rangers fold.
The Gers presently lie third in the Scottish Premiership, nine points behind rivals Celtic and Aberdeen.
Jackson spoke on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live (11 November) about Clement’s treatment of the Romania international, who was first exiled before being reinstated when a contract dispute was overcome.
“I don’t know if he’s trying to protect his squad or if he’s trying to protect himself and his reputation,” he told me.

“Some of the rationale behind everything is so scattered: ‘Hagi – don’t want him; he’ll never be a Rangers player [compared to now]; Hagi – come back in; we’re desperate for you.
Rangers’ recent run has been decent, with the club going unbeaten in their past three games across all competitions, but fans still expect a lot more from their team.
No matter what changes are made to the squad, even if Hagi is brought in, it appears that nothing is working and that the Ibrox outfit is simply going back to square one by patching up a poor performance with two or three average wins.
Things cannot go on like this, and unless their form improves, the Belgian’s time in Scotland may come to an end.
