“I don’t care what anybody says”: McCoist dismisses opinion on Rangers employing 44-year-old after Clement

Steven Gerrard’s management career struck a new low when he was booed by Al-Ettifaq fans after their 2-0 defeat to Al-Qadsiah on Saturday, but Ally McCoist has stated that Rangers would gladly welcome the Englishman back to Scotland

The Liverpool legend’s side is 11th in the Saudi Pro-League, having won only three of their first nine games. This dismal form prompted his own supporters to jeer him following Saturday’s loss to Al-Qadsiah, indicating that the club’s loyal had run out of patience with him.

Rumours have circulated that he could be fired soon if performances do not improve, making him available on the coaching market again. McCoist, who won the Scottish Premiership with Rangers, believes Gerrard will be supported by Gers fans if he returns to Glasgow.

McCoist: Rangers would welcome Gerrard back.

Gerrard, who resigned from football in 2016 following a successful playing career, began his coaching career with Rangers in 2018. The 44-year-old may have lost part of his admiration for Rangers after leaving for Aston Villa in November 2021. However, given that his stint in Saudi Arabia appears to be coming to an end, he may be available for the Teddy Bears to sign soon.

Rangers are already nine points behind leaders Celtic after only ten games, and dissatisfaction is growing among manager Philippe Clement. Speaking on talkSPORT, former Rangers manager McCoist stated that Gerrard would undoubtedly be welcomed back if a return was on the cards:
