Football fans are certain that Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven had a poo during Wednesday’s Carabao Cup match against Manchester City
Spurs defeated Pep Guardiola’s Premier League champions 2-1, thanks to goals from Timo Werner and Pape Matar Sarr, and advanced to the quarter-finals.
Van de Ven, one of Tottenham’s important players, started the match in central defence but was forced to leave after only 14 minutes owing to an injury.
Despite his brief appearance, the Dutch centre-back has gone viral on social media, with fans believing he accidently pooed on the pitch versus City.
A video on X has over 3.5 million views and shows Van de Ven wiping himself down while something appears to slip out from underneath his shorts.
There is no confirmation it was poo, and it is far more likely to have been a bit of grass or soil, but that hasn’t stopped followers from propagating rumors online.
‘Watching [Phil] Foden play gave this guy diarrhea.’ Football fan @IbbzHD posted on X
‘Bro literally s*** himself,’ @HeatXManCity wrote, along with two crying emojis and a skull emoji.
‘It’s a method,’ @PalmTreeFlex explained. ‘So no one approaches him when he’s holding the ball. Including his teammates.’
‘Who else is thinking about Gary Lineker?’ @justsport247 mentioned the classic incident from the 1990 World Cup.

‘When you’ve got to go, you’ve got to go,’ @CurtyCM wrote alongside a laughing emoji.
Tottenham signed Van de Ven from VfL Wolfsburg in August 2023 for about £43 million. He has played 39 games for Spurs.
