The player ratings as Tottenham held on to defeat Manchester City and go to the League Cup’s last eight.
Tottenham responded to their Saturday league disappointment by defeating Manchester City 2-1 in the League Cup. The victory will relieve pressure on manager Ange Postecoglou, who has promised to win a trophy in his second season with the club. Timo Werner and Pape Sarr scored for the Lilywhites on a night when they began as underdogs but absolutely deserved to win, despite Matheus Nunes’ goal giving Pep Guardiola’s team hope. Despite City’s best efforts, Spurs held on for a crucial victory.
Here’s how we assessed Tottenham’s players:
Guglielmo Vicario – 7
Throughout the game, he made several excellent saves.
Archie Gray – 7
Very solid and composed, especially considering it was his most important game as a Tottenham player.
Cristian Romero – 7.
He played one of his best games in a Tottenham shirt, showing commitment and resilience.
Radu Drăgușin – 7
Strong, solid, and unyielding. Games like this demonstrate why Spurs battled so hard to beat Bayern Munich to his signature.
Micky Van De Ven – 6
Played left-back and did a good job before being replaced by Destiny Udogie due to injury.
Pape Sarr – 7
Scored a well-taken goal and is finding form again after a hard start to the season. Replaced by Bissouma when he ran out of steam.
Rodrigo Bentancur – 7
The team used the ball efficiently in the first half and recycled possession effectively throughout the game.
Dejan Kulusevski – 7
One of Tottenham’s most underestimated players.
Brennan Johnson – 6
Showed a scorching speed and did a lot of running. I would have liked to be on the scoresheet as well.
Dominic Solanke – 7
He played well but couldn’t find the goal he was looking for.
Timo Werner – 8.
He was forced to leave due to an injury, but his goal will make him very happy.
Richarlison – 6
I missed a good chance after coming on and had a relatively quiet game.
Bissouma – 9
Made a spectacular goal-line clearance to seal his team’s victory.
