Rangers place Jimmy Vesey is on LTIR, while Ryan Lindgren is on injured reserve.

The New York Rangers have made a few changes to their opening-night roster for the 2024-25 season, with only a few hours remaining

Forward Jimmy Vesey has been placed on long-term injured reserve, while defenseman Charlie Lindgren has an upper-body injury.

The Rangers also manipulated their roster. Matt Rempe and Will Cuylle were among five players assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack, the team’s American Hockey League affiliate. Jake Leschyshyn, Adam Sykora, Ben Harpur, and Anton Bildh have been recalled from the Wolf Pack.

According to Arthur Staple of The Athletic, a few players who were sent down on Monday will be called back up on Tuesday, as Vesey’s move to LTIR will allow the Rangers some breathing room.

Vesey was injured after falling during practice late last month, and head coach Peter Laviolette initially predicted that he would miss “a few weeks” due to a lower-body ailment.

The 31-year-old is entering the third season of his second spell with the Rangers. Last season, he scored 13 goals and 26 points in 80 games, his biggest scoring season since 2018-19, when he had a career-high 35 points. He also scored three points in 12 postseason games as the Rangers advanced to the Eastern Conference Final, only to be eliminated by the eventual Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers.

This will be the final season of his current two-year contract, which has an AAV of $800,000.

Lindgren was injured during a preseason fight with Scott Mayfield of the New York Islanders a few days before Vesey’s injury. During the scuffle, Lindgren took an uppercut that caused more damage than planned. Lindgren, like Vesey, was projected to miss many weeks due to injury.

Lindgren signed a one-year, $4.5 million contract with the Rangers this summer after collecting three goals, 14 assists, and 17 points in 76 games during the 2023-24 season. He also recorded three points in 16 playoff games.

The Blueshirts begin their 2024-25 season on Wednesday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
