‘This one won’t be’: Trent Alexander-Arnold delivers concerning contract update in his own words.

Trent Alexander-Arnold spoke about his contract status at Liverpool on Saturday, and the Athletic has published some statements. They are not optimistic, to say the least.

Liverpool’s vice-captain has made it clear that he would not sign a new deal out of sentimentality. Instead, he is seeking trophies.

“The most important thing is trophies, if I’m honest,” he told reporters. “I want to win trophies.

“I’m a player who is extremely motivated by winning and being top. That’s arguably the most important component in anything. If you have an outstanding mentality that wants to win and will go to any length to win, that is what motivates them.”

That’s especially concerning given Real Madrid’s reported interest in Alexander-Arnold. After all, they are the club most closely associated with trophies.

Trent Alexander-Arnold discusses his deal
When asked if he wanted to stay at Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold simply said:

“I want to be a Liverpool player this season [as a minimum] is what I will say.”

But he also wants to make it clear that these conversations will not take place in public. They didn’t before, and they won’t now.

“Look, I have been at the club 20 years now,” he was saying. “I’ve signed four or five contract extensions, none of which have been played out publicly. “This one will not be either.”

Overall, this is not something you want to hear. Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah both take a total silent approach. Then there’s the ideal way of having Alexander-Arnold say he simply wants to play for the Reds.

Instead, we’re asking him to state unequivocally that money and a prominent role will not impact his decision. He simply wants to win trophies, and while Liverpool can surely contend for them, they aren’t up against Real Madrid’s reputation.

Alexander-Arnold can leave Liverpool on a free transfer next year. It’s beginning to look quite frightening.
