Postecoglou claims Spurs star took the blame for Arsenal’s defeat behind the scenes.

Ange Postecoglou admits to being a great fan of Cristian Romero, implying that the Argentine represents the type of attitude he wants at Tottenham.

Cristian Romero is a mentality monster!
When Postecoglou came at Tottenham last summer, one of his first major choices was to include Romero in the club’s new leadership group, with the Australian appointing the centre-back as vice-captain.

That was a significant show of faith, given that the 26-year-old had been inconsistent in his first two seasons at Tottenham, but the defender repaid his manager’s faith by becoming one of the club’s greatest performers last season.

However, Romero has had a rocky start to the current season, with some uncharacteristic defensive lapses that have cost his team goals.

This includes Arsenal’s winner in the North London Derby, where Gabriel Magalhaes was able to elude his attention and score a free header.

Romero acknowledged responsibility for Arsenal’s defeat.
Postecoglou revealed that Romero was dissatisfied with his defensive performance on that occasion, but hinted that the centre-back is eager to make apologies.

When asked if the defender accepted responsibility for Arsenal’s victory, Postecoglou told Football.London: “He did, and he wasn’t happy about it.”

“He understands that these things happen in football, and it is up to you to respond. I adore him as a player and a person, as well as the manner in which he trains and conducts himself. He’s the winner.

“I was asked the other day if it is vital to have people in the building who have won things, and he is the living example of that, but it does not make you bulletproof. There will be days when things does not work out for you.

“He was unhappy that he couldn’t accomplish more in that space. However, it wasn’t just him; it was a confluence of factors that lost us the goal and the game. But it’s not like he went back into his shell. He wants to get back.

Given the manner we play, our centre-backs must be focused for 90 minutes and cannot afford to turn off, as Romero has done on a few occasions this season.

However, we are aware of the Argentine’s quality, and there is no doubt that he remains one of our most essential players, as the leader of this youthful backline.
