Naby Keita, the departing Liverpool midfielder, will reportedly undergo a medical at Werder Bremen next week as he nears a return to the Bundesliga after five injury-plagued years in the Premier League
With all due respect to Werder Bremen, this is a significant step down from some of the other clubs to which Naby Keita has been linked in recent months.
But it’s possible that Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Inter Milan, all of whom reportedly expressed interest at one point or another, concluded that the Guinea international was not worth the risk. And who can really blame them?
After all, Keita has missed over 80 games due to a variety of injuries since joining Liverpool in a £52 million deal from RB Leipzig back in 2018, starting just three Premier League games last season.
With Sky Germany and BILD reporting that Keita is closing in on a move to Werder Bremen, perhaps this is a case of beggars not being given much room to ‘choose’.

Werder finished 13th in the Bundesliga table last season, staying out of the relegation zone in their first season back in the top flight. What Ole Werner’s team lacks in glamour, they may make up for by providing Keita with regular first-team football.
The 28-year-old midfielder is’very open’ to moving to Bremen, and talks are already in progress. Keita may even have a medical as soon as next week before signing a contract with the Weser Stadion through the summer of 2026.
When his contract expires at the end of the month, Keita will be one of several senior players leaving the team. As Arthur Melo gets ready to return to Juventus, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Roberto Firmino are also leaving the club.
