Liverpool will “absolutely” sign a center-back this summer, according to Football Insider
The Reds are now looking for a new center defenseman and have made preliminary moves.
Although it is unlikely that Joel Matip would leave this summer, the Reds are attempting to get ahead of the curve by bringing in defensive reinforcements.
Micky van de Ven of Wolfsburg is one of the options being evaluated by the Merseysiders, and Football Insider has learned that the club is almost certain to bring in a new centre-back in the coming window.
Van de Ven’s current contract with the German club expires in 2027 after an extension was signed earlier this year, but he is reported to be the type of player the Reds are looking for.
The 22-year-old earned 33 Bundesliga appearances this season, including all of them as a starter.
Sporting’s Goncalo Inacio is another name on Liverpool’s list, though his current contract expires in 2026, and it’s unclear whether the Portuguese club would be willing to let him leave this summer.
The 21-year-old started 43 of his 51 games this season, and the Reds may not be able to give him as much playing time if he stays in Portugal.
Jurgen Klopp’s team asked about Josko Gvardiol as a sort of player they wanted to add to their back line in January, but were quickly ruled out due to the potential expense of a move.
